The Senior Bowl was somewhat of a coming-out party for K.J. Britt through the lens of the linebacker having his name called out by Roger Gooddell in the upcoming 2021 NFL Draft. The former Auburn football stud was deflecting passes and suppressing the run game in the annual All-Star showcase of college football’s best seniors.
Britt’s stats were not as impressive in 2020, but the topsy-turvy nature of the SEC schedule was a contributing factor as to why. The season started in late September this past year, and while that is early for Power 5 and even Group of 5 standards (the Big 10 started in late October, the Pac-12 and MAC both started in November), that undoubtedly affected just about everyone’s production during the first (and hopefully only) pandemic-affected college football season.
In 2019, Britt put his name on the national radar with a 68-tackle season. His ability to stop the run and pass coverage makes him an NFL prospect with a sturdy six-foot, 250-pound frame.
That makes it no surprise that two NFL teams that made the NFC playoffs this past season are eyeing the Tigers linebacker:
Not long ago, Britt was linked to the Chicago Bears, another playoff team with a legendary history for linebackers, as well.
Green Bay and New Orleans are both squads that have long been known for historic quarterback play from Aaron Rodgers and Drew Brees respectively. In recent years, both have shown vulnerabilities, though, and both franchises could soon be transitioning to new signal-callers.
It’s not yet known when each team would draft Britt, but he has been projected in rounds 5-7 in most mock drafts that have him being selected.
Here’s hoping the departing Auburn football star realizes his dream in late April or the first of May.
