Auburn football has offered another scholarship for the recruiting class of 2022, making a bid for an in-state kicker. Alex McPherson is currently not rated on 247 Sports but has four scholarship offers from SEC schools. In the mix with Auburn are Tennessee, Florida, and LSU.
After years of Carlson kickers, their time on The Plains is running its course, and hopefully, McPherson can fill their shoes. The Fort Payne, AL native made 10 of 16 field-goal attempts in 2020, per 247 Sports. Two misses were from 60 yards, one was from 55, and the other two were blocked.
According to his Twitter profile, McPherson has been very active in kicking camps, including Kohl’s and One on One Kicking Camps. He’s rated the number one kicker in the class of 2022 on the Kohl’s website:
"He separated himself from everyone else by winning multiple competitions and hitting a 65 yard FG with ease. He has made long FG’s throughout his high school career and has the talent and mind fame to be successful at the next level as a kicker who can punt in college."
McPherson tagged Coach Bert Watts, Auburn football’s new special teams coordinator, in his offer announcement. He’s listed as having a “warm” interest in Auburn on 247 Sports.
He has had a slight edge in the recruiting process due to his brother, Evan McPherson, who just finished his college career as a kicker for the Florida Gators and declared for the 2021 NFL Draft.
Despite his older sibling’s history in Gainesville, there is no guarantee on where Alex McPherson will play. He’s obviously got the interest from the Gators, but he has reportedly spoken a lot with LSU as well.
Let’s hope the Auburn offer will show McPherson that the real Tigers are in Alabama.
