Auburn football legend Cam Newton is still in the process of finding his next home in the NFL, but luckily for Tiger fans who don’t want to see the greatest quarterback to ever wear the orange and blue, it appears that there are enough links to at least one professional franchise in the world’s most prominent pro football league.

After Pro Football Focus linked Newton to the Washington Football Team earlier this offseason, another publication has named WFT as an option for Newton.

Per their dedicated football page on Twitter, Bleacher Report predicted Newton would wind up in the nation’s capital:

Washington Football Team features Newton’s former long-time head coach with the Carolina Panthers, Ron Rivera, reprising his role as the lead voice in the WFT locker-room. That link could help facilitate Newton landing with the reigning NFC East Champions.

Adding fuel to that potential fire is the fact that Washington just recently cut ties with Alex Smith, who threw six touchdowns and eight interceptions in 2020 after one of the most miraculous comebacks in the history of the sport.

Quarterback is a clear position of need for WFT, who now only roster Kyle Allen and Taylor Heinicke under center. Allen suffered a season-ending ankle injury in 2020 that ultimately led to Heinicke getting a shot in the postseason and responding with over 300 passing yards (he was handed an extension in the days that followed).

While both options are solid, Newton would elevate the ceiling of a team that already has the pieces on defense to contend for a Super Bowl.

Here’s to Auburn football legend Cam Newton getting his chance in Washington and reviving an MVP career.
