Auburn basketball: What is going on with Justin Powell?
Auburn basketball’s 2020-21 season was not one to forget, but for very depressing reasons.
2020-21 was the year the NCAA robbed the Tigers of seeing Sharife Cooper. It was also the year the team couldn’t partake in the postseason. Oh, and Alabama won the SEC regular-season title and is looking like a possible #2 or #3 seed in the NCAA tournament.
Perhaps most tragic, though, was seeing Justin Powell get shut down after just ten games in a Tigers uniform. Auburn basketball fans never got a chance to see their three top-100 recruits (Powell, Cooper, JT Thor) on the floor together at the same time.
We never got to see what the 2020-21 Auburn Tigers could have been.
Now, Powell is bound for the transfer portal:
It’s disappointing, to say the least, that Powell won’t play alongside Trey Alexander in 2021-22. With Cooper seemingly bound for the NBA, we will never see what Powell could have done alongside a marquee running mate.
As for what’s next, there is a link if one connects the dots. Powell, who suffered serious head injuries this past season, wants to move closer to home. A program that could use an infusion of talent after a down year that may make a lot of sense for the versatile combo guard is none other than Kentucky.
Over in the Bluegrass State, there is a belief that the Big Blue could be in the running for the Auburn basketball transfer:
