Auburn football is the latest program to offer four-star running back Omarion Hampton out of North Carolina. The state’s No. 4 recruit already has double-digit offers, several coming from the SEC.

Hampton, who currently plays for Cleveland High School, finished his sophomore season in the fall of 2019 with 250 carries for 2,402 yards and 35 touchdowns. The team made a deep playoff run and hit the field for 14 games.

The running back’s junior season is currently in progress, and after three games he’s already averaging 12.5 yards per carry, according to the Fayetteville Observer. Cleveland head coach Scott Riley says about Hampton, “He’s exactly what you want your best player to be like.”

The same publication reports that currently Hampton is focusing on building relationships when it comes to recruiting–because for right now it has to be mostly virtual–and he’d like to plan visits later on in the year:

"In general, Hampton said he and his family are searching for a college where “I have a good relationship with the coaches, and somewhere that can help after the NFL and academics-wise, too.”"

Hampton thanked Auburn football running backs coach Cadillac Williams in his Twitter announcement, who–as we mentioned last week–has a pretty good pitch to offer to class of 2022 running backs:

Auburn football has offered 16 running backs so far for the class of 2022 but has no commitments so far. With the Tigers’ five-star target Emmanuel Henderson committing to Alabama over the weekend, they could definitely use the boost from this North Carolina four-star.

Hampton’s recruitment is far from being over, but the Tigers should work hard to get this hardworking four-star running back target.
