The Auburn basketball fanbase–the Jungle–has had quite a difficult 2020-21 stretch.

It all began when the Tigers had their 2020 season cut short. Obviously, every team in the NCAA suffered the same fate, but no team had built up more momentum as a program than Auburn. Two consecutive NCAA appearances and a Final Four in 2019 had the program heading towards elite status.

That was all curtailed when the coronavirus arrived stateside and wiped away the first March Madness of the “roaring twenties”. Now, as the roars of arenas slowly start to grow back to normal in 2021, Tiger fans don’t even get to see their team play because of the infamous self-imposed postseason ban.

Not that the team would have made the tournament anyway. The lack of Sharife Cooper in the non-conference portion of the season and the lack of Justin Powell for the SEC portion of the year took their toll on Auburn basketball’s morale and the youthful Tigers wilted under the difficult circumstances of the pandemic-stricken 2020-21 season.

This is all to say that Auburn basketball fans had it rougher than most college franchises this past year. Perhaps that makes “the Jungle” come off a little crazy to the outside world.

One particular notable college basketball media figure thinks they are top 10-crazy. Jeff Goodman of Stadium believes Tiger fans are among the most rambunctious Twitter fanbases:

The SEC somehow only takes two of the top ten spots, claiming #1 and #10. It may be warranted to group Big Blue Nation in a class of their own.

But if Goodman only saw the incessant tweeting about Auburn from ‘Bammers–whose Crimson Tide are in the Sweet 16 as the Tigers are preparing for next season–perhaps he would rerank his list.
