If you had to double-take this morning when digesting Auburn football’s tweeted picture of Bryan Harsin in front of a Boise State-branded blue and orange practice field, well, April Fools to you.

In celebration of the annual “holiday”, Harsin and the Tigers Twitter account coordinated a ruse to get fans wondering if a gaffe was made by the social media team.

The prank, while humorous, also conjures up an uncomfortable feeling that Harsin still has his heart in Idaho after spending his collegiate quarterback career with the Broncos and winning three Mountain West championships at BSU. Remember, the Boise native finished out his degree there and raised a family there.

Either way, it was a funny social media interaction at a minimum:

Today is a day where social media deception is on high alert. Don’t be fooled! Trades are unlikely to happen in the NBA (the deadline has passed) and the MLB (who opens up their season today). Players across all four sports will likely send out retirement tweets, while retired players are going to hint at comebacks.

As for college coaches, well, expect the unexpected. While players are unlikely to tweet anything too risky, the potential for corniness is high for lead locker-room voices across the country.

Harsin is, as Paul Finebaum said, not one to blow you away with charisma. His joke was subtle, one you had to read the fine print (or…grass) to snipe.

But, as previously mentioned, it’s one that gets the mind wandering.

Tiger fans, of course, hope that Harsin is over his ex and fully immersed in his new relationship with Auburn football and the great fans on the Plains. Spring practice is underway, and A-Day is in less than two-and-a-half weeks.

Until noted otherwise, today’s Twitter fun was just a joke, and in no way a sign Harsin’s heart isn’t in Auburn.

Every indication has shown that it is, which could be bad news for the rest of the SEC in 2021.
