Auburn football: Kevin Steele comments on post-Tigers Tennessee stint
We all remember how crazy January was for the Auburn football community–Gus Malzahn fired, Kevin Steele as interim coach at two different schools in 18 days, a roller coaster ride of a coaching search, and then Bryan Harsin was hired!
For a while, it seemed that Steele, former Auburn football defensive coordinator, was intent on replacing Gus Malzahn at the helm of the program. However, after coaching the Tigers in the Citrus Bowl loss to Northwestern, Steele lost the interim coaching job and the goodwill of most Auburn fans. Nevertheless, he bounced up to Knoxville where in a matter of days the Tennessee coaching scandal broke out and Steele found himself as interim head coach of an SEC football program again.
That is, until Tennessee decided to hire former UCF coach Josh Heupel, whose spot would ironically be taken by Gus Malzahn in Orlando. According to Dennis Dodd, the time wasn’t just a wild ride for the fans but also a crazy time for the former Auburn coach:
"“To be real frank with you, I could write a book now about nothing more than those 18 days. So much so that if I did choose to write a book, it would be a Netflix series,” Steele told CBS Sports."
This tidbit from Kevin Steele, who in many fans’ eyes was actively working to replace Malzahn while he was the head coach, was quickly caught by Auburn Twitter. Soon, fans were competing to guess the name of Steele’s hypothetical book, and having a lot of fun doing it:
Personally, we at Fly War Eagle think that some of those titles are pretty good options for Coach Steele. Arguably one of the greatest defensive minds in college football, Kevin Steele will begin his first season in about four decades without a team to coach.
