Auburn women’s basketball’s new head coach, Johnnie Harris, wasted no time in hiring her coaching staff and dishing out offers for the years to come. Expected to rebuild the program, Johnnie Harris arrives on the Plains after the Lady Tigers played their worst season in women’s basketball history.

With quite the resume, Harris has already begun the hard work of the rebuild, especially after losing senior Unique Thompson to the Indiana Fever of the WNBA. After adding three assistant coaches to her squad in Ketara Chapel, Bob Starkey, and Damitria Buchanan, the staff handed out three recent offers.

The first is class of 2023 recruit Timya Thurman from Linden, AL. Thurman plays power forward and center, and is 6’4″. Thurman told 247Sports that “my strengths are my defense and posting up. I also feel my rebounding is a strength of mine because I have gotten better at it over this summer.”

The second offer went to class of 2022 recruit Kara Dunn. Hailing from Acworth, Georgia, Dunn plays the guard position and received a Scout’s Grade of 92 from ESPN. Dunn was named to the 2020-21 High School Basketball All-Metro girls first-team as well as the All-State first team.

Lastly, Harris and co. offered a scholarship to class of 2023 point guard Reniya Kelly. The Hoover, AL native received a Scout’s Grade of 95 from ESPN, and helped her team with the state championship title in 2020-21. According to Over the Mountain Journal, sophomore team captain Reniya Kelly was a huge contributor, scoring 24 points, seven rebounds, and two steals. She was also named tournament MVP.

Each of these recruits would be major gets for Auburn women’s basketball, and hopefully, we will get to see Johnnie Harris’ recruiting prowess at work first hand with some commitments.
