It was a tough night for Mac Jones, but a fun night for Auburn football fans.

As one may or may not know, those that occupy the home locker-room at Bryant-Denny Stadium are not on Fly War Eagle’s favorites list, especially when you lead the Crimson Tide to a National Championship and demolish the Tigers on your way to doing so.

And especially especially when your name is Mac Jones.

Jones was vastly overvalued in the pre-draft build to the point that experts had him landing with the San Francisco 49ers at the #3 pick after they traded away three first-rounders and a second-round pick for the rights to the selection.

Yes, the guy that threw two pick-sixes to Smoke Monday and Zakoby McClain just a year and a half ago was projected to be selected ahead of several potential franchise QBs, including one that was recruited by Bryan Harsin himself (Trey Lance) and one that scouts see as a smaller Cam Newton (Justin Fields).

Luckily, reason prevailed and Trey Lance was the 49ers pick to be Jimmy Garoppolo’s eventual successor instead of Mac.

Well, during the draft, given the absence of an Auburn football product going in the first round, Tiger fans had fun at Jones’ expense after he fell down draft boards to #15 and was caught on camera less than enthused about it.

As Auburn Alan and Auburn Super Man both pointed out in their meme of the Mac moment, the drop from his projected draft slot to his actual draft slot was a precipitous one:

Noted barner dunc city had a school-yard throwback for his Mac-meme:

Finally, continuing the school kid theme, Jake “Jboy” Crain joined in on the fun:

Tonight or, more likely, tomorrow, Auburn football fans will hear the names of former Tigers during the 2021 NFL Draft.

Night one was a lively one on Auburn Twitter, though, and the Mac Jones memes were mostly why.
