After not hearing his name called during the NFL Draft, former Auburn football DB Jordyn Peters has realized his NFL dream anyway.

Following the conclusion of the final round of the NFL’s Draft’s three-day spectacular–which was even more spectacular in 2021 with fans in attendance following a virtual edition in 2020–Peters signed with the NY Jets as an undrafted free agent.

Peters now joins his former Tiger teammate in the Auburn secondary, Jamien Sherwood, in New York. Sherwood was selected in the fifth round yesterday.

Peters had a strong pro-day performance, notching the best vertical of any Auburn football draft hopeful. His 39.5-inch jump was topped by only three safeties during last year’s NFL combine, as 247Sports’ Nathan King noted.

No wonder Peters was pissed about not hearing his name called yesterday:

Regardless of whether or not 31 other teams made a mistake they will soon regret, Peters has found a home…and he will be linking up with a critical piece of what was a sturdy, if unspectacular, defense under Kevin Steele last season.

Sherwood won’t be returning to the secondary in his professional run, however. The Jets plan on deploying him as a linebacker at the next level due to his struggles with keeping up with the fleet of foot receivers at the next level.

Peters now has a chip on his shoulder that could lead him to being one of the next great UDFA’s to make an impact at the next level. While the frustration was palpable yesterday, the jubilation is tangible today:

We wish Jordyn Peters, Jamien Sherwood, and every other Auburn football alumni in the pros good luck in 2021 and beyond.
