Ever since his indecision with an initial Auburn football departure into the transfer portal this past January, Christian Tutt has not seen things go according to plan. His lack of a plan initially may have hurt him, but the decision to join the pool of potential NFL draftees did not yield the desired result.
Tutt was the only former Tiger to not either hear his name selected–Auburn football had four names called during the NFL Draft–or not be signed as an undrafted free agent.
Initially, Tutt was looking to take his talents elsewhere in the college football realm. With Wesley McGriff ending up with Florida, it seemed like an Auburn football pipeline to Gainesville was a possibility.
Tutt decided to stick with his pursuit of a professional career though, and this past Saturday seemed like the most likely time it would happen. Jordyn Peters didn’t stick on the secondary market long after the draft concluded, as he joined Jamien Sherwood with the New York Jets as a UDFA.
Eli Stove was the next Auburn alum poached off the FA market, landing with the Los Angeles Chargers. He could develop into a weapon for emerging star QB Justin Herbert if he is still on the team post-training camp.
Tutt remains unsigned, though, and retaining his eligibility and finding a new home may be the only option. Tykee Smith has likely taken his place on the depth chart, and Bryan Harsin has been departing with plenty of tenured players this offseason.
Florida remains a possibility, and a player with SEC experience playing for one of the most prestigious college football programs in the country shouldn’t be short of options even after a disappointing NFL Draft entry.
That said, Tutt has not had an ideal time since leaving the Auburn football program, and Fly War Eagle holds no grudges…we just want what is best for the former Auburn man.
