The Auburn football team of 2021 is still taking shape, and Shaun Shivers wants new head coach Bryan Harsin to add another gear to the machine. Notre Dame offensive lineman Dillan Gibbons announced on May 6 that he would be entering the NCAA transfer portal with two seasons of eligibility left.
According to BlueAndGold, Gibbons played for Notre Dame from 2017-2020 and appeared in 28 games. He was a contributor on both punt and field goal teams, and earned one start at left guard in the ten games he played last season.
The left guard spent his time at Notre Dame as a career backup, per One Foot Down, and despite practicing with the first-team unit in the spring but by the Blue-Gold Game–the Fighting Irish version of our A-Day game–he was moved to the second-team center.
The grad transfer enters the portal in a time of rebuilding for the Auburn football team, where players are either getting used to the culture change under the new regime or leaving the Plains. A major contributor on the Auburn offense, Shaun Shivers thinks that Bryan Harsin and the coaching staff should go after Dillan Gibbons.
If Shaun Shivers wants more depth on the offensive line, we also think it would be a good idea to have more depth on the offensive line. With Brandon Council expected to be out until fall camp with shoulder and knee injuries, Gibbons would join senior Tashawn Manning and true freshman Tate Johnson at the right guard position.
Strengthening the O-Line is something that head coach Bryan Harsin should be working hard on, as everyone is expecting big things from returning QB Bo Nix this fall. Dillan Gibbons could add some needed depth to Will Friend’s offensive line heading into the 2021 season.
