Leaving the Auburn football program for the Sunshine State was a popular path this past offseason following the historic 2020 season played under unfathomable pandemic circumstances.

The most prominent name to leave the Plains was the head coach and leading locker-room voice for the past eight seasons, Gus Malzahn. Things didn’t work out for him in his final few years, bottoming out in 2020 with a loss in Columbia to South Carolina and non-competitive efforts against Alabama and Georgia.

With him came Big Kat Bryant, Mark-Anthony Richards, and Nate Craig-Myers to Orlando on the recruiting side. On the coaching side, long-time Malzahn confidants at Auburn, Herb Hand, and Travis Williams joined him.

Auburn football fans didn’t want to see Williams go, but he now exudes as much UCF pride as possible. While his veins were injected with black and gold, his heart will always be orange and blue from his playing days as a Tiger as part of the loveliest village on the Plains.

That’s why when K.J. Britt signed his rookie contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, he still shouted out their bond as part of the vaunted historical LB room at Auburn University:

Britt now joins a Buccaneers defense that shut down Patrick Mahomes in the Super Bowl in one of the more shocking championship performances in ages. Former Tigers Jamel Dean and Carlton Davis will be joined by their fellow alumnus after Britt was selected in the fifth round of the 2021 NFL Draft.

Winning is now expected from Williams and Britt in their new homes, with Malzahn giving UCF near-impossible goals and Tampa owning the greatest quarterback in the history of the NFL in Tom Brady and the most recent Lombardi Trophy.
