The Auburn football team is on a roll when it comes to picking up recruits out of the transfer portal. Head coach Bryan Harsin and his staff were on a mission to rebuild, and the process has not slowed yet.

After entering the NCAA transfer portal in early May, it’s looking like former LSU QB T.J. Finley will soon find a new home on the Plains. Despite the fact that upwards of 25 schools reached out to Finley once he entered the portal, the transfer sees Auburn as a place where he can compete for a starting role in the fall.

Although Finley hasn’t officially decided between main contenders Alabama, Texas, Penn State, and Auburn, the Tigers may present the best opportunity for Finley to get maximum playing time. The JBoyShow released their predictions for where the rising sophomore will land, and with 75% confidence, they have picked Auburn football.

According to AL.com’s Tom Green, Finley is expected to make his decision after/around June 3, which is when the SEC will vote to make one-time transfers within the conference immediately eligible to play rather than having to sit out a year first. He’s looking for the school that will best prepare him for the NFL and said he was impressed with Coach Harsin’s and Coach Bobo’s reputation for developing quarterbacks.

Finley would join expected starter Bo Nix, recent transfer Grant Loy, and true freshman Dematrius Davis in the Auburn football QB room. While Finley stands to take the backup spot should he choose the Tigers, he would still have to unseat two-year starter Bo Nix for the QB1 role.

At the very least, having another quarterback on the depth chart with actual SEC experience makes the Auburn football team better, and it will force Bo Nix to push himself in order to keep the starting job in the 2021 season.
