The Auburn football team is settling into the summer with a big addition to the 2021 runningbacks room. With only four backs currently on scholarship for the Tigers, the position is definitely an area of need despite powerhouses Tank Bigsby and Shaun Shivers. Head coach Bryan Harsin and his staff turned four into five this weekend with the commitment of Jordon Ingram.

The Mobile, AL native had early offers from Auburn, LSU, and Arkansas, among others in 2020, and signed to play with Central Michigan out of high school, per 247Sports. Ingram entered the transfer portal after not playing during his freshman season, and will officially sign with the Tigers in August.

Though Ingram will be a preferred walk-on at first, he will most likely receive a scholarship and count towards Auburn football’s recruiting class of 2022. He becomes the second running back to join the Tigers’ roster in the offseason after Jarquez Hunter signed back in February.

Auburn Rivals reports that Ingram rushed for 1,394 yards and 18 touchdowns as a senior, in addition to catching 15 passes for 195 yards and one touchdown. He made the second-team 6A All-State and was invited to play in the Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Classic.

After losing three running backs in the offseason in Mark Anthony-Richards, Harold Joiner, and D.J. Williams, Ingram will add needed depth to the RB room, which is part of what drew him to the Tigers. According to AL.com, Ingram has said that his experience has been “nothing but positive” and he’s looking forward to being part of Auburn’s team:

"“I feel really good about being here,” Ingram said. “I think this is a great opportunity. I’m just going to go out and do my best.”"

Ingram will have four years of eligibility with the Tigers and will join Shaun Shivers, Tank Bigsby, Jarquez Hunter, and Devan Barrett on the running backs roster.
