Auburn Football: Best potential future home and home series
Auburn football best home-and-home series #2: Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets
This matchup is one with more history than average fans may realize. The first-ever game against Georgia Tech was all the way back in 1892, in which the Tigers took home the 26-0 win. This rivalry game was played almost every year between 1902 and 1987, in which the Tigers hold a 47-41 lead in the overall series. The most recent games were in 2003 and 2005, in which the Yellow Jackets took the victory over the Tigers in both years.
We need to dub this game the “Battle of I-85” again and bring back this historic rivalry to the Plains. Georgia Tech has experienced a rebuild under Geoff Collins and could be a future ACC contender as Jeff Sims matures into the QB1 for the Yellow Jackets. Bryan Harsin could excite some older Auburn football fans if he brought the Yellow Jackets rivalry back and it could offer an exciting new out-of-conference challenge for the Tigers.
It is a shame that many historic rivalries such as this one have died due to conference realignment and conference politics, but in this age of trying to make the toughest out of conference schedule; the Tigers have a great option a few hours away in Atlanta. It would be an awesome experience to bring back the “Wreck Tech” parade to Toomer’s Corner and reignite a lost game that could be one of the greatest out-of-conference rivalries in college football.
