Auburn football best home-and-home series #3: Florida State Seminoles
This game was a home-and-home series throughout the ’70s and 80’s and the last regular-season game was in Jordan-Hare Stadium in 1990. Auburn football leads the series 13-5, but dropped the last game against the Seminoles in the 2014 BCS National Championship game in Pasadena.
These two programs always delivered when they hit the field back in the ’80s and Pat Dye v. Bobby Bowden was one of the greatest coaching battles of all time; especially the 42-41 win for Auburn in Tallahassee back in 1984. This would excite both fan bases and could ignite one of the more interesting games for the future of college football.
Mike Norvell and Bryan Harsin are both being tasked with rebuilding programs that have experienced recent success and have endless pressure on them to get both of these programs back to the top of college football. Florida State and Auburn battle every year on the recruiting trail and this could offer an intriguing chance for Auburn to go play in front of those ever-important Florida prospects when they head to Tallahassee.
I think Bryan Harsin and Allen Greene should try and expand Auburn’s non-conference schedule and Florida State could offer an exciting opportunity for the Tigers down in the Sunshine State.
