Last week we saw two Auburn football veterans win the Iron Men of the Week honors, but this week the honors go to two up-and-comers looking to make names for themselves in the coming season. Jarquez Hunter represents the offensive side of the ball this week, and Zion Puckett takes the defensive award.

Jarquez Hunter, a true freshman running back out of Mississippi, signed with the Tigers in February as a member of the recruiting class of 2021. The 3-star prospect was ranked #44 overall in his class and the #12 recruit out of the state of Mississippi.

He was Mississippi Mr. Football and the Class 5A state MVP. A lifelong fan of the Tigers, Hunter is ready to get on the field and compete, which is evident in his early recognition as a hard worker. We should expect to see him on the field along with Tank Bigsby and Shaun Shivers this fall.

Zion Puckett will head into the 2021 season as a redshirt sophomore safety. He started the Kentucky game last season and recorded 15 total tackles and two tackles for loss. According to Auburn Undercover, Puckett has historically played the role of backup nickel, but we could see him contributing at the safety position this fall.

The defensive back signed with Auburn football as part of the recruiting class of 2019 and is originally from Griffin, GA. He was a 4-star prospect ranked as the #17 recruit out of the state of Georgia and the #12 defensive back in the class of 2019.

Zion Puckett is clearly getting the opportunity to be a leader for Bryan Harsin’s first Auburn team, and freshman Jarquez Hunter is already making an impact in the offseason.
