Auburn football RB transfer option #3: Tony Brown

Auburn could stay within state lines and land South Alabama transfer Tony Brown, who entered the portal on December 14th after two seasons for the Jaguars. Brown redshirted his freshman season in 2018, but found playing time in 2019 and 2020; even though it was mostly on special teams.

Brown was a dominant force in high school, in which he was named the Gatorade Player of the Year in 2017 after rushing for over 2,600 yards and 47 rushing touchdowns in one season. He also rushed for over 3,300 yards and 41 touchdowns as a junior in 2016. He held offers from South Alabama and Mississippi Valley State coming out of East Central High School in Mississippi.

Brown would not be expected to start for the Tigers, but adding depth behind Bigsby and Shivers should be the top priority of this staff right now and Brown offers an explosive option at the #3 or #4 spot at the running back position.

I think Brown would benefit from the coaching at Auburn and could be an important part on special teams and a solid option for a rotational running back. He could play a role similar to Jordyn Peters and Devan Barrett these past few seasons on special teams, in which he can be a gunner on punts and kickoffs. He also has the speed and talent to be a solid kick return option if the Tigers do not want to put Bigsby at risk.

Overall, the Tigers have very solid options in the portal and now it will be up to Bryan Harsin and this staff to pull their magic and land another important transfer from the portal. This addition would be the 7th transfer that Harsin has landed as the Auburn head coach, so keep an eye on the portal as the Tigers look to replace the mass exodus of talent in the running back room.
