Once a Tiger, always a Tiger. As a member of the 2017 Auburn football team–arguably the most successful of the College Football Playoff era–Davis is one of the Plains’ most successful NFL jumps of the past five years.

Alongside Jamel Dean, Davis was a member of the 2020 Super Bowl Champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers team. As was predicted, Davis was a difference-maker in Super Bowl LV, slowing down Pat Mahomes and making Auburn football fans liken the 2020 Super Bowl MVP to their very own (Milo’s sponsored) QB, Bo Nix.

With another former teammate, K.J. Britt, joining him down in the Big Guava, and Tom Brady returning for at least one more season, Davis could be in line to be a part of a dynasty. Especially if former Florida QB Kyle Trask could successfully replace the G.O.A.T. when his time in the sun is done.

Rob Leeds of FanSided’s Buccaneers site Pewter Plank, believes he will get the loot that goes along with it:

"Given the importance of the position, corner is getting pricier by the day. Even a slow season from Davis would do little to weaken his contract position, as that would be the outlier and not the norm during his sample. On the other hand, another 19 passes defended and four interception season could be disastrous for the Bucs financially if they hold out on the extension. As there has been little information from either side indicating that a new contract is in the works, it looks like the Bucs are making the wrong decision by taking the wait-and-see approach. This is excellent news for Carlton Davis, though, as he should have another great season in this defense, a season that should put him in contention for a highest-paid corner in the NFL after this year."

Let’s hope the former Auburn man gets the bag, especially since he didn’t get to reap the rewards of the NCAA’s new NIL laws.
