Auburn football was in a dry spell in commitments for the 2022 class, in which the Tigers have not had a commitment since February.

That all changed tonight as the #1 kicker in the 2022 class announced his commitment to the Auburn Tigers.

Alex McPherson announced his commitment tonight to the Auburn Tigers on his Twitter. He is the brother of former Florida Gators kicker and current Cincinnati Bengals kicker, Evan McPherson. McPherson is a star at Fort Payne High School and is the unanimous #1 kicker in the country, which continues the long-line of Auburn football special teams success.

McPherson caught up with Keith Niebuhr from Auburn Undercover after his official visit on June 4th and had this to say about his visit to the Plains:

"“It was awesome. It was a great getting to see all the coaches face to face and getting to visit here officially and meet for the first time with the new staff. And getting to see Auburn again. It’s been a really fun experience coming down here again.”"

McPherson also talked about his impression of Bryan Harsin:

"“I loved him. He’s a great guy. He’s always about family, about tradition, about the culture of the game. For me, that’s huge. Big special teams guy. Which is great for me as a specialist. But he’s a great guy. He’s genuine in what he says and every word he says.”"

The commitment of McPherson is the 4th in the 2022 class for the Tigers, which includes Holden Geriner, Jarrell Stinson, and Powell Gordon.

This was a huge commitment for Harsin and the staff given that a replacement for Anders Carlson was not in place until McPherson committed.

The Tigers could have a huge week ahead as they are projected favorites for another players who will announce Wednesday their decision on where to play in college. Micah Riley-Ducker who is a 3-star tight end target for the Tigers and he will announce tomorrow night on his Instagram.

Overall, the Tigers land their top special teams prospect in McPherson and the Tigers special teams unit looks to continue to be dominant compared to other units across the country.
