Surprising Auburn football 2021 season development #3: Bo Nix becomes an NFL prospect
On the flipside, Bo Nix could instead wow spectators and have scouts high on his potential of playing professionally when his college career is all said and done.
His father, Patrick Nix, never went the NFL route after ending his Auburn football career as the all-time leader in passing efficiency. The elder Nix became a coach after his collegiate playing career concluded and worked his way up from the high school level to becoming the offensive coordinator at the University of Miami.
Bo could be different, though. At a shade under six-foot-two, Nix isn’t tall by NFL standards, but his physique is one that could withstand punishment while his legs could help him avoid it.
The one major drawback to the Pinson, Alabama product reaching the pros has been his underwhelming play in the pocket. But noted QB coach Jordan Palmer believes in Nix, and once said that he had the potential to be the #1 pick in the 2022 NFL Draft:
"Nix broke several records for an Auburn freshman QB, and Palmer believes he will be the No. 1 overall pick in the 2022 NFL draft because of aspects beyond his physical traits. “There are the two things I look at — confidence and maturity — before arm talent, before size, before any of that,” Palmer says. Nix is “more confident and mature than most of the guys I’ve ever been around.”"
#1 is pretty unlikely considering the hype UNC’s Sam Howell and Ole Miss’ Matt Corral have already generated, but being a late-round pick is not if Nix can gel with the new schemes of OC Mike Bobo and Harsin, a former QB himself.
