Many Auburn football fans have shown concern with the 2022 recruiting class; as it sits 14th in the SEC and outside the Top-80 right now according to 247Sports. The Tigers could be on the upswing now, though, as they landed their sixth commitment for the class of 2022 today and it was one of their biggest targets.

Jay Fair is a 3-star wide receiver out of Rockwall, TX and ranks as the #537 overall player and #72 wide receiver in the 2022 recruiting class. Fair had an outstanding year for Rockwall-Heath High School last season, in which he caught over 70 passes for over 1,300 yards and 13 touchdowns in the 2020 season.

Fair will bring elite speed to the Tigers offense, which is needed after Anthony Schwartz headed to the NFL during the 2021 draft. Fair was clocked at a 4.39 last year and recorded a 10.50 in his top 100 meter performance.

The Lone Star product stands at 5-foot-10 and 175 pounds right now, which is solid size for an incoming freshman wide receiver and should allow Fair to add some weight and make an immediate impact on the Plains.

Fair announced his decision on Twitter this afternoon:

Fair visited the Plains back on June 18th and spoke highly of Auburn football and the new staff:

"β€œReally just the relationship with them and the staff,” Fair said of what stands out about the Tigers. β€œThey are a very close staff. Their relationships and development, I really feel like they’re in for a change this year as far as their offense goes. They believe in it just as well as I believe in them.β€œI would rate the visit at 9.5 (out of 10),” he added. β€œA strong 9.5.”"

Fair was one of the top wide receiver targets in the 2022 class for the Tigers and new wide receivers coach Cornelius Williams makes his first impact on the recruiting trail on the Plains.

The Tigers recruiting class jumps to #75 overall in the 247Sports rankings and is on pace to start moving up the SEC rankings with another commitment or two.

Things are beginning to look up for the Tigers on the recruiting trail as the Tigers are favorites for multiple top prospects who will announce in the coming weeks, so stay tuned right here on Fly War Eagle!
