Auburn football’s official Twitter account tried really hard to get Tiger fans excited about their new head coach Bryan Harsin ahead of their turn today at SEC Media Days.
Unfortunately, it will always be a hard sell to hear any hype from former University of Alabama National Champion QB Greg McElroy and not feel a certain type of way about it afterward.
The three-year NFL pro chimed in on his feelings about the new HC on the Plains during his new morning show he hosts alongside former AU lineman Cole Cubelic. The Auburn football official Twitter used his praise in a graphic last night to the chagrin of Tiger fans.
Here were McElroy’s comments:
🗣 We hear you @GregMcElroy

Who'd have thought one day AU's official Twitter account would shoot out a tweet with GMc prominently featured. What a time to be alive. https://t.co/GQlUIPEqsk

You know this guy still has nightmares of Nick Fairley and Tsharvin Bell

McElroy’s collegiate career included two instant classics against Auburn football, with the Tide winning the Iron Bowl and the BCS National Championship in 2009-10 before losing it in November 2010 and watching Cam Newton lead the Tigers to a title in January 2011.
While his words on Bryan Harsin and co. were positive, AU fans want none of it going forward. It’s all bad blood towards the QB that was under center when the Iron Bowl rivalry reached its peak in 2010 with Harvey Updyke’s infamous Toomer’s Corner tree poisoning.
Some scars never heal. The Auburn football official Twitter account just learned that the hard way.
