Auburn football fans wanted it, and Auburn football fans are getting it. The Tigers’ trip to Happy Valley on September 18 will be celebrated with one of Penn State’s infamous whiteouts. Penn State’s football Twitter account announced the Nittany Lions’ game day themes just this morning, and Auburn officially beat out Michigan for the spot.

Typically assigned to the Nittany Lions’ toughest home opponent of the season, the whiteout makes for a crazy environment in Happy Valley, especially because it will be the first one since prior to the pandemic. Penn State has apparently selected Auburn football as their most difficult opponent this season though Michigan or Ohio State have had the game on lock for the past eight years.

While winning a whiteout game in Beaver Stadium is no small task, the Nittany Lions have gone 8-8 in whiteout games since the inception of the event in 2004, which may be a good sign for the Tigers.

With the Tigers and the Nittany Lions pursuing many of the same recruits, a whiteout win could mean more than just a big non-conference win. If Auburn can dominate Penn State in their home territory, it may be all that the recruits need to make their final decisions.

Though Penn State is slated as Auburn’s most difficult non-conference opponent, Tiger fans are optimistic about the outcome of the September 18th matchup and expect to record a massive win in Happy Valley:

Though we’ll have to wait until September to truly have a feel for Bryan Harsin’s first-year team, Tiger fans are gearing up to make the trip up north and rally around the 2021 Auburn football team.
