Program #1 we’d like to see join Auburn football in the SEC: Louisville

Back in 2015, Auburn proved itself in a featured matchup in Chick-fil-A’s kickoff weekend with a 31-24 win over a young Lamar Jackson and the Louisville Cardinals.

It was a game the Tigers had a stranglehold of–and one Jackson didn’t leave much of a dent in–that got close in the fourth quarter before AU closed the door. The future NFL MVP went for 100 yards on the nose but didn’t record a touchdown and threw an interception in his freshman year.

That matchup could be a preview of future conference play for Louisville, who would save a lot of travel mileage by avoiding trips to Central New York and playing regional contemporaries like Kentucky, Tennessee, Vanderbilt in potential SEC “pod” play instead.

Then again, there could end up being more travel for the Cardinals, but in that case the revenue would justify it. The top teams in the nation are down in the Deep South, and if Louisville could ever get another future NFL MVP, perhaps it could be forged by iron in the SEC.

Who knows if such a move would increase the competitive advantage in recruitment in the state, with UK currently the most attractive option. Why not give it a shot, though?
