The Auburn Tigers are on fire on the recruiting trail for the 2022 cycle as they have now landed their 5th commitment in the month of July and their 7th overall commitment in the 2022 class. Auburn football may have had a slow start, but they are picking up steam and more momentum could come out of Big Cat Weekend, which is being hosted today on the Plains.

Damari Alston announced his commitment to the Tigers today at 1pm/CT on Instagram Live and Twitter:

Alston is a 4-star running back out of Atlanta, GA and ranks as the #300 overall player and #28 running back in the 2022 recruiting cycle. He has been a standout at Woodward Academy for 3 years and has rushed for over 2,500 yards and 36 touchdowns over his 3 seasons thus far.

Alston is the 2nd highest rated commit in the Auburn recruiting class right now, only behind QB Holden Geriner out of Savannah, GA. Alston’s commitment brings the Auburn football recruiting class up to #63 in the 247Sports composite rankings and one step closer to jumping Ole Miss who is #13 in the SEC right now.

Alston has excellent vision and patience to find the hole. His explosion and physicality with the ball in his hands is what makes him the perfect prospect for the Tigers. I wrote a brief scouting report on Alston back in June and had this to say:

"“Alston shows excellent patience as a runner, but once he finds the hole, he has the ability to explode through it and possesses the breakaway speed to burn the backend of the defense. He runs low, which allows him to upend defenders and bully smaller defenders when he meets them in the open field. I think Alston fits the mold we have seen from many Auburn RBs these past few years and should be able to find a place in the rotation if he ends up coming to the Plains.”"

The Tigers had to fight off Northwestern and LSU for Alston, but a strong unofficial visit for the Tigers on June 17th may have put the Tigers in the most favorable spot. It also helped that LSU and Northwestern recently had other running backs commit to each program, which could have swayed Alston to the Plains due to a better chance of playing time.

The Tigers are slowly picking up momentum on the recruiting trail and are gaining on the SEC in the recruiting rankings. Big Cat Weekend is where the Tigers usually make their mark in the recruiting cycle, so stay tuned right here at Fly War Eagle for the latest updates!
