With all the hoopla surrounding Auburn football’s SEC Media Days this year, there were bound to be comments from Bama fans slamming the Tigers. Quarterback Bo Nix represented the Tigers alongside linebacker Owen Pappoe, and the QB1 oozed confidence in the wake of a coaching change that has truly shaken up the program.

” I know a lot of people want us to be scared of Alabama, but we’re not,” said Nix when asked about Tony Fair’s ambitions to “take the head off the elephant.” According to fellow FanSided site Bama Hammer, Nix is only saying this to hide his fear of the 2021 Crimson Tide:

"Three observations jump out. People who talk about not being scared, are usually doing so to hide their fears. Any big-time college football player who wastes any time contemplating fear will, at some point, likely fold under pressure. Lastly, who are the “lot of people” Nix is saying wanting Auburn players to be afraid? Is he talking about Crimson Tide fans – or Alabama football players or the Crimson Tide coaching staff? If he is, the young man is delusional. That is not a helpful attribute for a quarterback."

Auburn football has gone 2-2 versus Alabama in Iron Bowl the last four years, and Nix was a true freshman quarterback when the Tigers beat the Tide in 2019. Nix has had both experiences–beating Alabama at home and suffering a tough loss in Tuscaloosa. What is there to be afraid of?

Alabama fans always want Auburn to be scared and consistently harp on the Tigers’ “little brother” status. Nix is not delusional. He knows what to expect, and last time Alabama came to the Plains they lost to the very QB that is supposed to be afraid of them.

Everyone knows that this year could go either way for the Tigers. As a transitional year with major changes facing the program in regards to recruiting, practicing, and overall culture, the pieces of the puzzle may not perfectly fit right away.

But is it possible for Auburn to win the Iron Bowl this year? Absolutely. And saying anything other than that is what would make one “delusional.”
