The second it got out that Oklahoma and Texas were planning a move to the SEC, everyone knew that college football was about to be shaken up completely. With the suggestion that the Sooners and Longhorns could be on Auburn football’s schedule as soon as the 2022-23 season, it seems to be getting more real by the minute that the SEC will be growing.

But the move will not only affect the SEC and the Big-12. Rather, leaving the Big-12 with only eight teams virtually changes the landscape of college sports and begins a trail of dominos that are on the verge of being knocked over.

Will teams from other conferences move to replace Oklahoma and Texas in the Big-12? Will the Big-12 fall apart with two of its biggest programs gone? Will teams from other conferences make an attempt to join the SEC? Is the NCAA going to survive this?

Lately, it seems as though anything can happen in the world of college sports. ESPN’s Jay Bilas added another wrinkle when he suggested that the ACC should approach the SEC for a merger:

The suggestion that two conferences could fold based on OU’s and UT’s departures from the Big-12 is explosive, and it sparked plenty of reactions from fans. Remember, a 16-team conference doesn’t only apply to football, but every intercollegiate sport–basketball, baseball, etc.

It’s safe to say that most fans were not in favor of an SEC-ACC merger. SEC pride is too great, and most think ACC football isn’t on the same level as in the southeast:

Right now it’s only Oklahoma and Texas, but if their shift to the SEC becomes set in stone it could be the beginning of all kinds of moves for teams around conferences. The Sooners and Longhorns could push Auburn football to the SEC East, but if teams from the ACC join the conference it might change the system completely.
