Army football joins a conference as its academy rivals have

Army football is one of 31 programs in the history of college football to win 700 or more games. They’ve been a dominant squad for the majority of the last half-decade as a college football independent, but with the way the sport is going, it could be a matter of time before they join a conference.

Any conference.

Their location in the Hudson Valley of New York lends to a potential jump to the ACC or Big Ten, who have Syracuse and Rutgers as NY/NJ entrees already. Then again, they could also find a home in the Group of Five conferences with their former temporary conference (Conference USA), the Sunbelt (who they’ve played in recent years), or even the American, in which current main rival Navy plays.

Army’s run-heavy offense is one that has garnered its own following of appreciators, and their traditionally stout defense gave up the least amount of yards per game in 2020. They would bring a lot of eyeballs and attention to whatever conference they end up in.

No worries if they remain an independent, either. Fly War Eagle will have a soft spot for Army football no matter what.
