According to Auburn football’s first-year head coach Bryan Harsin, the first big accomplishment for the Tigers heading into the season has been achieved–the final set of decks, where the players run up and down the upper decks of Jordan-Hare.

Coach Harsin’s focus has been on hard work from day one, and the Iron Men of the Week honors go to the players that put in the effort during those grueling conditioning sessions in the stadium or the weight room or practices.

This week’s Iron Men of Auburn football have both been given the honors before and deserve them once again. Senior Smoke Monday represents the defense and senior Brenden Coffey represents the offense.

If you’re an Auburn football fan and you don’t already know about Smoke Monday, are you really an Auburn football fan? He earned second-team All-SEC honors in 2020 as the Tigers’ starting safety and will return as a defensive leader in 2021.

Most recently, Monday became one of seven SEC athletes named to the Jim Thorpe Award watchlist, made up of 40 of the nation’s best defensive backs. He will head into the 2021 season with 108 total career tackles, four sacks, four interceptions, and seven passes defended in his time on the Plains.

Senior offensive lineman Brenden Coffey arrived on the Plains in 2020 from Butte Community College. He played in five games during the 2020 season as a sub for injured Brodarious Hamm, including a start versus Mississippi State. He’ll go up against Hamm for the starting right tackle spot this fall.

Auburn football’s 25 fall practices will begin on August 6 leading up to the Tigers’ home opener versus Akron on September 4 at 6:00 p.m.
