Auburn football: All For Tennessee supports SEC adding Clemson/FSU
Auburn football fans have been the center of one of the most eventful offseasons in recent memory, with a coaching regime change, a rival QB transferring (and being immediately eligible), and realignment within the SEC all ingredients to the story.
Bryan Harsin’s arrival over the winter kicked it all off, while TJ Finley’s transfer in May kept the offseason moving as the 2020-21 school year was concluding. The recent additions of Oklahoma and Texas have fired up fanbases (including Auburn football) across the SEC with two cash cows from the Big 12 making their way to the southeast to form a superconference.
The Volunteers fanbase isn’t one that unanimously loves those two teams coming, but they could be one that is a bigger fan of Clemson and Florida State making the jump.
All For Tennessee’s Caleb Calhoun made the case for why this is something Vols fans should cheer for:
"With the league the way it is right now, this is something Tennessee football should actually root for. Although it makes the league tougher, that’s not what’s relevant to the success of the Vols. What’s relevant is how tough their path is in the league individually. Now, the Vols could find themselves in an easier path to navigate the conference if the SEC reverts to pods or divisions with Texas and OU in the league. If Clemson and Florida State join, however, it becomes a certainty."
For AFT, an easier path to winning is the ultimate goal. While that thinking could rob the fanbase of being a part of bigger games, the fanbase wants their first title in over two decades.
I can’t blame them for wanting something to give, especially given the decline of the programs over the past five years.
We’ll continue to monitor the Clemson/FSU-SEC rumors and how it could affect Auburn football moving forward.
