Auburn football fans got affirmation once again that while their quarterback Bo Nix is considered among the top signal-callers in the SEC, he’s not done nearly enough to be named the top dog of the conference.

Nix was named the #4 SEC QB by the NY Post in their college football rankings covering the ACC, SEC, and Pac-12. Of course, that market isn’t one known for college football, with St. Johns being the biggest team in New York City and not even having a program at the Division I level, but the NY Post has one of the more plugged-in news staffs when it comes to sports.

Future NFLers are the main concerns of many readers of the Post, but still, it’s good to know that Nix’s sluggish sophomore season hasn’t turned enough of the national media away to give up on him. Not yet at least.

This was Steve Makinen’s writeup of Nix:

"4. Auburn (Bo Nix): Former five-star recruit followed in footsteps of dad Patrick (an early 1990s Tigers QB) by choosing Auburn. Was better as freshman in 2019 than last year. Will command new scheme with coach Bryan Harsin’s arrival from Boise State."

As usual, Patrick Nix’s name was included in the narrative. An Auburn football legacy angle is tough to ignore, especially when expectations aren’t met by the second generation.

What’s glaring also is the blunt way Makinen dished his fact cold and hard re: Nix taking a step back in year two.

What isn’t glaring and not exactly tough to justify is the ranking relative to his contemporaries, which include the man under center at Auburn football’s main two rivals Alabama (Bryce Young) and Georgia (JT Daniels) and Ole Miss. Matt Corral is college football’s current darling, and many see the Rebels QB as a potential NFL top pick in 2022.

Nix could be the darling on the Plains with a turnaround season. As Makinen points out, he’ll have the chance to as he takes control of the new schemes Bryan Harsin has for the Tigers’ offense.

Next. Bo Nix's NIL sponsor really pissed off Bama fans.... dark
