Auburn football continues its positive momentum on the 2022 recruiting trail with its 7th commitment since the start of July. Bryan Harsin and this new Auburn staff are proving all the doubters wrong by flexing their muscles once again as the Tigers now find themselves with 9 commitments in the 2022 class.
Ja’Kobi Albert is a 3-star athlete out of Fairfield, AL and ranks as the #356 overall player and #23 athlete in the 2022 recruiting class. Albert plays safety and wide receiver for Fairfield High School, in which he racked up over 850 all-purpose yards, 11 touchdowns, 29 tackles, and 9 pass breakups.
Albert caught up with 247Sports and talked about which side of the ball he plans to play on the Plains:
"For now, yes (safety), but I feel like if I get to know (WR coach Cornelius Williams) and (OC Mike Bobo) it’s possible. Coach Williams said if I didn’t like playing defensive back when I get there and decided that it wasn’t for me, he would try me at receiver. He said he’s seen my film and know what I can do with the ball.”"
Albert was one of the top targets for new defensive coordinator Derek Mason and the Tigers, which now hold the country’s #54 overall recruiting class for the 2022 cycle. On July 1st the Tigers found themselves with only 3 commitments and outside of the Top-80.
Bryan Harsin received much criticism throughout the summer regarding his slow start on the 2022 recruiting trail, but now it seems the Tigers might be the hottest team in the country right now.
The positive momentum could continue in two weeks when 4-star Tre Donaldson announces his college plans, and the Tigers are the favorites right now to land the talented safety out of Florida. Derek Mason looks to continue his domination on the recruiting trail here by landing three of the top safety prospects in the 2022 class.
The Tigers are not done yet, but the momentum seems to be strong on the Plains with many other big targets planning their announcements in the coming weeks. Stay tuned right here on Fly War Eagle as more commitments roll in before the season!
