Auburn football: Fans react to most hated CFB teams of all time
In the last decade, the Auburn football program has certainly had its up and downs. A national championship in 2010, disaster in its wake, a new coach, an almost championship, and then the stalled years of the Gus Malzahn era.
The most memorable season in recent times for most fans would be the Cam Newton-led championship run in 2010, but according to 247Sports’ Brad Crawford, that team is also one of the most hated in all of college football.
The 2010 Auburn football team, coached by Gene Chizik and headlined by Cam Newton, landed at #4 on the list of most hated CFB teams of all time, barely missing out on the top three. The 1986 Miami team tops off the list, followed by 2005 USC and 2014 Florida State at numbers two and three respectively.
The Tigers’ spot on the list is probably attributed to the superman qualities of Cam Newton that season, underscored by the investigations taking place while he was on the Plains. But the major point of contention for most people?
2011 Alabama is at the #9 spot, and most think that team should be much higher on the list:
Another notable mention on the list was #10, the 2017 UCF Knights, also known as the team that claimed they won the national title due to their undefeated season, despite never making it to the college playoffs. What a year of college football that was.
Despite everyone else’s apparent hatred of the 2010 Auburn football team, they’ll still remain a favorite in our hearts.
