Team #3 Auburn football will surpass in rankings: Ole Miss

Finally, we have a team that has been listed ahead of Auburn in just about every preseason rankings besides Jboy: Ole Miss.

The Rebels are a trendy team to bet on just as much as the Tigers are a trendy team to fade. Given their standing in the SEC West, either team can leapfrog the other one with a few things going their way.

Ole Miss has a big test Week 1 against Louisville that could solidify them as a team to expect a leap forward from. If they lose out of the gate, they are likely looking at a 2-2 record considering their Week 4 trip to Bryant-Denny Stadium, where a super-charged Tide offense would be waiting in the wings for a porous Rebels defense.

It’s plausible that by the time Ole Miss makes its way to the Plains on Halloween eve, they will have an identical 5-3 record to Auburn football. AU will have played three ranked teams (Penn State, LSU, and Georgia) by then.

But October 30th is perhaps the most important game on the schedule, because the lowest ceiling Tiger fans should have in 2021 is a 7-5 season that includes beating the Rebels at Jordan-Hare Stadium.
