I’d take an orange hat with a blue “AU” any day. Apparently, Auburn football head coach Bryan Harsin’s hat giveaway was not as well received by those present at practice today when the former Boise State coach gave one to each reporter.

The new lead sideline voice of the Tigers upset a few members of the Auburn press for the gesture.

Tom Green of AL.com wrote in his practice observations that he believed the hat was a way for Harsin to earn goodwill with the press in a somewhat manipulative fashion.

The Florida graduate may just be perturbed by the idea of repping Auburn in any fashion. If that is truly the case, I can respect it. The man perhaps did what he did to get engagement on Twitter and it worked (and got me writing up a story about it).

Now, if he really is trying to downplay Harsin’s ultimately harmless act in a snarky way, though,–which has been the norm since vaxx-gate at SEC Media Days–then simply put…he needs to do less.

Because how can this been seen as anything but a guy fired up for his first season on the Plains and instead be seen as some long-game chess move to actually earn goodwill with the press?

Needless to say, the Auburn family had a lot of fun once the intitial arguments subsided:

Fly War Eagle personally can’t wait to be talking hits, and not hats, when Auburn football guns for a 36.5-point spread cover against Akron on September 4th.
