This past week, the several-year-old Joey Gatewood-Bo Nix Auburn football QB debate was revisited when it was announced that he’d be leaving Lexington to transfer from the Kentucky Wildcats.
Now, it’s going to be ratcheted up to a whole new level if Gatewood can get on the field this upcoming season.
As it turns out, Gatewood is leaning towards Gus Malzahn and the UCF Knights as his third destination in his collegiate career.
Given Malzahn’s connection to the Gatewood-Nix competition back in the day, you knew the Auburn family was going to be vocal about these rumors:

He will never play a game if he goes to UCF. He needs to go to Akron or Kent St or something https://t.co/v56Z1vgO2e

Weird how he now wants to be Dillion Gabriel’s backup? Is he not tired of being the backup? https://t.co/SuyXzrXNjk

As Jon Hale of the Courier Journal notes, it’s up in the air whether or not Gatewood will be eligible to don the black and gold this coming season due to the timing of his transfer:
Going to be interesting if he can get a waiver to play this season even though new transfer rule set a July 1 deadline to enter portal and be eligible to play in 2021. https://t.co/2J6riS8KhX

Fly War Eagle will keep you updated on the Gatewood situation, but a reunion down in Orlando is seeming like the next step of the former Auburn football QB’s journey.
