Auburn football’s 2022 4-star running back recruit, Damari Alston, is obsessive about the rest of the recruiting class. He has joked about being the team’s Director of Recruiting, and he’s now taking up the mantle of pre-announcement hype man.
Ahead of a major decision day for two highly sought-after recruits, Alston is preaching a message of hope.
His prediction?
It’s going to be a big day.
And Tiger fans were predictably thrilled:
Alston could have two potential skill position recruits joining him if he is any bit a soothsayer in the form of Tre Donaldson and Omari Kelly.
Kelly is a Hewitt-Trussville High School product that has the eyes of the Kentucky Wildcats and the Alabama Crimson Tide in addition to Cornelius Williams. While ‘Bama has the slight edge by being 21 miles closer than the Plains, Kelly is trending towards Auburn football.
As for Donaldson, the dual-sport athlete–who is also a target of Bruce Pearl and Auburn basketball on the hardwood recruiting trail as well–has had reps at both quarterback and in the secondary. The athlete has strong interest from Florida State, which has the proximity advantage for the Tallahassee high product.
With Alston’s marketing blitz having long been accompanied by continued encouragement of other recruits from Class of 2022 4-star QB Holden Geriner, it could be time for the class to take major steps towards being viewed as one of the top classes.
Gaining ground on both Alabama and Georgia on the recruiting trail (and in the standings) will help Auburn football stand out from the pack when said pack (the SEC) grows exponentially with the additions of two historical powerhouses in Texas and Oklahoma.
Here’s to that this Thursday.
