Bruce Pearl and Bryan Harsin joined forces on the recruiting trail today as Auburn football and Auburn basketball both landed one of their top prospects today in Tre Donaldson. It was an impressive feat to land one of the top 2-sport stars in the 2022 recruiting class.
Tre Donaldson is a 4-star safety and point guard out of Tallahassee, FL and ranks as the #267 overall player and #20 safety in the 2022 recruiting cycle. Donaldson is also the #18 ranked point guard in the country for basketball and will be the first commitment for the basketball team in 2022.
Donaldson is the 10th commitment in Auburn’s 2022 recruiting class for football and ranks as the 3rd highest prospect in the class behind Caden Story and Holden Geriner. His commitment brings the Tigers into the Top-50 in the 247Sports class rankings for 2022, in which the Tigers now rank #46 in the country. The Tigers now rank #13 in the SEC and officially end their streak as the worst SEC class for the 2022 cycle by passing Ole Miss in the official rankings.
Donaldson played quarterback and defensive back last season at Florida State University High School, in which he threw for over 1,700 yards, 15 touchdowns, 4 INTs and rushed for over 700 yards and 10 TDs. On the defensive side of the ball, Donaldson racked up over 42 tackles, 2 INTs, and 5 pass breakups.
This commitment is huge for new defensive coordinator Derek Mason due to Smoke Monday nearing the end of his Auburn career, which leaves a hole in the backend of the Auburn defense. The safety position is now one of the more promising positions on the Auburn football roster due to the additions of Donaldson, Donovan Kaufman, Bydarrius Knighten, & Caleb Wooden this offseason.
Tre Donaldson was the #1 point guard target for Bruce Pearl, while being one of the top defensive prospects for Bryan Harsin, which makes this one of the biggest pickups this offseason for the Tigers. The momentum on the recruiting trail has been building for the past two months and it has culminated with a Top-50 Auburn football class with much more work to be done. Stay tuned right here on Fly War Eagle as the commitments keep rolling in!
