High school football is upon us, and many of Auburn football’s target prospects will be hitting the field with their respective teams very soon. One of those players is recent Tigers commit Damari Alston, a 4-star running back from Atlanta, Georgia.

MaxPreps recently released their 2021 Preseason Georgia All-State football team, and more than one of Auburn football’s targets made the list. Alston was named first-team running back, based on the almost-2,000 all-purpose yards he put up during the 2020 season.

Alston committed to Auburn football just last month, and since then has become a major recruiter on social media for the Tigers by promoting the program to potential recruits.

Also on the list is class of 2023 defensive line target Lebbeus Overton, who was named first-team DL. Overton put up huge numbers last season at Milton High in Alpharetta, GA–the same school that gave Auburn Carl Lawson and Peyton Barber–and earned several accolades heading into his junior season:

"The 2020-21 MaxPreps Male Athlete of the Year and National Sophomore of the Year finished last season with 70 tackles, 38 tackles for loss and 21.5 sacks."

The #1 recruit in his position in the class of 2023, Overton is being pursued hard by Alabama (of course), Georgia, Texas A&M, and Oklahoma–all of which he visited this summer–in addition to Clemson. His Crystal Ball prediction points to Oklahoma as his destination.

Other Tiger targets on the list include Daniel Martin (first-team LB), Bo Hughley (first-team OT), Ethan Nation (second-team CB), and Daniel Calhoun (second-team OL). Of those prospects, Hughley seems to be the most interested in Auburn.

The 4-star OT visited the Plains on June 10 and had a very positive experience according to Auburn Undercover writer Jason Caldwell:

"“I loved it,” Hughley said. “I did an unofficial visit and I really loved the campus and the coaching staff. They really made it feel like home.”"

So far there’s no timeline on when these recruits will make official decisions, but we’re glad to have Damari Alston on our 2022 team for sure.
