Eight days, Auburn football fans.

We could count on two hands how many sleeps it will be until Week One for the SEC West’s seven programs begins, and soon it will be one.

Hell, the games have begun for the NAIA level and begin tomorrow for the FBS with a Big Ten matchup between Nebraska and Illinois in Champagne serving as the very first game of a return-to-normal season that will still be unlike any other considering the chances of COVID-19 related forfeits.

Very soon, Jordan-Hare Stadium will be whole again, with a sea of orange and blue spanning the entirety of the stadium for the first time in two calendar years. That statement will be true for several other SEC West teams that open up the season at home as well.

With Week One coming, Fly War Eagle decided to rank the strength of each opening game for the SEC West’s seven franchises:

#7. Louisiana Tech at Mississippi State football

Mississippi State could find themselves at the bottom of the SEC West pecking order this coming season, though there certainly is optimism in Starkville (for some reason).

Their Week One opponent, Louisiana Tech, had a decent run in Conference USA play (4-2) in 2020, but ended up being a .500 also-ran when it was all said and done.

It’s possible that the Bulldogs from LA Tech give UAB a run for their money in C-USA’s West division, but they won’t give the Bulldogs from Mississippi State much of a run in their Week One matchup at Davis Wade Stadium.
