Auburn football fans take note of Scott Frost debacle at Nebraska
The 2021 Auburn football begins next week, but Tiger fans love the sport of college football. They didn’t sit out Week Zero of the college football season.
We began a five-game FBS slate on this seven-day warning for Akron with the earliest Big Ten conference matchup ever: Nebraska vs. Illinois.
Auburn football fans are familiar with Scott Frost, who knocked off the Tigers in their last New Year’s Six Bowl appearance while coaching the 2017 co-national champion UCF Knights. Following that win, Frost cashed in big with Power Five program Nebraska.
And so far, it has been a mess.
The Huskers were favored by a touchdown but lost 30-22 to the Fighting Illini in Champaign, Illinois in the first Big Ten conference game not in front of cardboard cutouts since the calendar year 2019. Nebraska had control early–despite the momentum of a punt dragging Cam Taylor-Britt into his own end zone for a safety–but ceded it when penalties allowed Illinois to not things up, and an Adrian Martinez fumble led to a last minute touchdown for Illinois in the second quarter.
To boot, just a week ago the Huskers revealed serious off-field baggage:
"The NCAA has interviewed Frost, current and former staff members, administrators and football players, and Frost has hired an attorney. The alleged violations occurred in the past 12 months. The NCAA investigation includes Nebraska’s impermissible use of analysts and consultants running special teams drills, according to the report. Analysts are not among the 10 full-time on-field assistants and are not allowed to speak with players."
It’s a rough stretch for Frost that he might not survive. Ever the passionate bunch, Auburn football fans took to Twitter to react to the ongoing debacle taking place in Lincoln, Nebraska:
Nebraska fans are down bad, but perhaps a coaching change could change that.
