Cam Newton gets Mile High in Denver with the Broncos

Perhaps the loss of a Tiger could open up a roster spot for another. Seth Williams is gone, but a more seasoned AU alum could take his spot.

While the Denver Broncos have a decent QB rotation, there isn’t a singular spectacular option on the depth chart that should slam the door shut on considering Cam Newton.

Drew Lock has the highest ceiling of any of the Broncos signal-callers, his sophomore slump was a serious one. His 4-1 record as a starter in 2019 was followed up by a 4-9 last year. To be fair, he did miss a few games due to various injuries (hand, ribs), but his 16:15 TD-INT ratio changed the narrative for Lock’s early career.

It clearly rattled the Broncos front office into signing Teddy Bridgewater as insurance in the case that Lock’s slump is more than just a phase. Bridewater’s Carolina Panthers weren’t successful in the first season post-Cam Newton, but he did have career highs in TD tosses, rushing TDs, and completion percentage.

Those two options aren’t spectacular, and the release of Brett Rypien makes the prospect of Newton in navy blue and orange far more feasible.
