An Auburn football legend backs up a Mississippi State legend in Dallas
No Tiger fan wants to see Cam Newton in a backup role, but perhaps that’s the best place for him weapons wise.
Newton in a Dallas Cowboys uniform would mean that Mississippi State fans will own bragging rights because Dak Prescott would be ahead of him on the depth chart.
That’s nothing on Alabama fans chirping about Mac Jones winning the starting job in New England, though. Newton signing elsewhere would be good for that narrative being buried in the news cycle.
In Dallas, Newton would have Ezekiel Elliott, Amari Cooper, and CeeDee Lamb, perhaps the most talented skill position trio of his career. Considering the recent ACL tear suffered by Prescott, Newton would never be that far from a spot start from injury maintanence on the Cowboys’ prized investment.
As Jordan Schultz notes, the current QB situation should have Jerry Jones considering a union with the former MVP:
The #Cowboys will “begin exploring Cam Newton” as a potential backup to Dak Prescott, per source. Dallas just cut two QBs in Garrett Gilbert and Ben DiNucci. Prescott’s current backup is 27-year-old Cooper Rush, who has just one career completion.

Newton, despite being several years removed from his peak in the NFL, would be the biggest star in the Lone Star State if the Cowboys gave the Auburn football star a home.
