Auburn football fans had a lot of fun during the first half of UCF’s Week One opener at the Bounce House against Boise State.

Of course, former Auburn football HC Gus Malzahn’s presence on the Knights sidelines will keep Tiger fans interested in the happenings out east in Orlando.

Malzahn’s squad had a far less than ideal beginning to their 2021 season, with Dillon Gabriel throwing a pick-six on his very first drive in the new system. He righted the ship in the second quarter with two touchdown tosses, but the damage was done.

And the hounds were circling.

Knowing UCF had just landed former AU QB Joey Gatewood–who had since transferred to Kentucky before his most recent move to the black and gold–Tiger fans decided to toy with the idea of Gatewood being called upon by Malzahn after he famously lost the QB battle to Bo Nix while on the Plains:

Gatewood has struggled to find the field no matter who he is suiting up for. While he scored his only three career touchdowns with Auburn football back in 2019, he decided to utilize the immediate transfer capability afforded to student athletes because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Gabriel might be the best signal-caller Gatewood has shared a QB room with. His pick-six to start the game wasn’t what Malzahn drew up, but neither is Gatewood replacing him in Week One in a non-blowout.

Auburn football fans were having fun here, but take the trolling with a grain of salt.
