LSU fans were not as fortunate as Auburn football fans were yesterday. Their Tigers were on the losing end of their Week One matchup, while AU showed out in one of their most dominant wins in years.

Ed Orgeron’s Bayou Tigers marched into the Rose Bowl as the #16 team in the nation but left with their tails tucked between their legs following a 38-27 loss to UCLA. QB Max Johnson, filling in for injured QB (for the second straight year) Myles Brennan, amassed over 300 yards passing and three touchdowns, but what was supposed to be an improved LSU defense ended up failing them en route to an opening week non-conference loss…something SEC West teams cannot really afford.

The loss drew a ton of scrutiny from the press, but Clay Travis of Fox Sports and Outkick had one of the most pointed takes of all.

He believes ‘Coach O’ proved to be no different from 2010 National Champion Auburn football HC Gene Chizik:

Travis took aim at both LSU and Auburn football’s most recent national championship teams.  It should be noted he is a Vanderbilt Law School graduate, but regardless, clearly he doesn’t think much of the supporting casts or head coaches of eventual #1 overall NFL draft picks Cam Newton and Joe Burrow in their collegiate days.

Newton and Burrow themselves have some similarities both being transfers from other programs coming in and leading a legendary program from the Deep South to a National Championships.

Where the two differ most is overall record. Orgeron’s 61-42 record is far superior to Chizik’s .500 record at 38-38.

But it’s probably not a good sign for ‘Coach O’ to be compared to Chizik at this stage in the game considering how long the former Auburn football coach got fired after a title.
