Attention Auburn football fans, if you were considering skipping out on this weekend’s 11:00 a.m. matchup versus Alabama State, you may want to rethink. The Opelika-Auburn news confirmed on Friday that ASU’s band, The Mighty Marching Hornets, will be making the trip to Jordan-Hare Stadium this Saturday.
The Mighty Marching Hornets are kind of a big deal, having marched in the 2019 Rose Parade and sending their dancers, The Honey-Beez, to America’s Got Talent in 2017. The Hornets are no stranger to Jordan-Hare and performed there last in 2018 during the halftime of their first meeting with the Tigers.
Since the 2014 season, Auburn football has committed to playing every FCS team in the state, and they’ve faced Alabama State, Jacksonville State, Alabama A&M, and Samford. The Tigers have yet to play The University of North Alabama.
On the other hand, Nick Saban refuses to play in-state teams! Since 1944, Alabama has faced no in-state teams other than Auburn, and according to UA Athletics Director Greg Byrne, the Tide sees no reason to change that plan. The reasons aren’t very clear, but Saban claimed they were above his paygrade, and Byrne cited wanting to be respectful of a model that has worked well for UA.
Well, while the Crimson Tide hoards notoriety and wealth in the north half of the state, the Tigers will continue to help bolster the athletic programs of the state, and Auburn fans are happy about it. The news that The Mighty Marching Hornets and the Honey-Beez will be performing at JHS sent fans into a flurry of excitement:
Auburn football fans are absolutely hyped up to host The Mighty Marching Hornets, the ASU football team, and the Honey-Beez. See y’all in Jordan-Hare this Saturday!
