Former Auburn football placekicker Daniel Carlson had quite a game in the Las Vegas Raiders’ season opener. Carlson nailed a career-long field goal from 55 yards to send the game versus the Ravens into overtime.
Ultimately, Carlson’s overtime kick paved the way for the Raiders’ win, which involved a confusing delay of game penalty and the team being unable to find their kicker. Either way, the Raiders won and Daniel Carlson secured a new career-long stat.
After all, there’s a reason that he earned the nickname “Legatron” when he played Auburn football. Kicking off what has been referred to as “The Carlson Era” on the Plains (pun intended), Daniel Carlson remains a favorite of Auburn fans, and they were hype to see his success in the NFL:
Even Carson’s former Auburn football teammate Kerryon Johnson got in on the action:
Carlson was originally drafted in 2018 by the Minnesota Vikings but was released just two weeks into the season after a rough start. That same year, he joined what is now the Las Vegas Raiders and set the franchise record for single-season field goals percentage at 94.1.
In his NFL career so far, Carlson has made 71 of 84 attempted field goals for a percentage of 84.5 He’s also made 106 of 110 extra-point attempts for a 96.4 percent accuracy. Carlson’s next kicks will come in the Raiders’ second game of the season at Pittsburgh on Sunday.
